What are the Ds of Mosquito Prevention?
DRAIN standing water
DRAIN STANDING WATER from garbage cans, house gutters, pool covers, coolers, toys, flower pots or any other containers where sprinkler or rain water has collected.
DISCARD old tires, drums, bottles, cans, pots and pans, broken appliances and other items that aren’t being used.
EMPTY AND CLEAN birdbaths and pets’ water bowls at least once or twice a week.
PROTECT boats and vehicles from rain with tarps that don’t accumulate water.
MAINTAIN the water balance (pool chemistry) of swimming pools. Empty plastic swimming pools when not in use.
DETER mosquitoes with a repellent
APPLY MOSQUITO REPELLENT to bare skin and clothing to keep mosquitoes away.
Always use repellents according to the label. Repellents with DEET (recommended), picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, and IR3535 are effective.

DUSK & DAWN is mosquito time
Limit outdoor exposure or take precautions during this time as mosquitoes are most active.
DRESS to prevent bites
COVER YOUR SKIN with clothing if you must be outside when mosquitoes are active. Wear shoes, socks, long pants, and long sleeves.
USE MOSQUITO NETTING to protect young children, especially those younger than 2 months.
COVER DOORS AND WINDOWS with screens to keep mosquitoes out of your house. Repair broken screens on windows, doors, porches, and patios.

How to enter
We're excited to see some strong doodles this year!
Students can work with any materials they want, but all doodles must be entered using the entry form.
Parents and teachers can submit the entry form online as a .png, or .jpg.
The Fall contest is open for entries until November 30, 2021, 8am, so here's some information to help you get started:
Download or print the ENTRY FORM.
Doodle:
Use the word "MOSQUITO" provided on the entry form to create your Doodle. Use any materials, from crayons to clay to found objects.Write:
Artist’s statement - Tell us about what you have drawn and how it represents the Ds of Mosquito Prevention.
Fill out the rest of the required information and have a parent or guardian sign the entry form.
Submit:
Enter the contest online.
Entry form doodles: If the doodle is created directly on our entry form, you can either upload it to our site as a .jpg or .png.
Other doodles: If the doodle wasn't created directly on our entry form, take a high-res digital photo or scan of the doodle in good lighting and combine it with the entry form.

JuDGING & Prizes
Doodles will be judged on the following parameters:
Artistic merit: Based on artistic skill
Creativity: Representation of the contest theme, use of the letters in the logo, and the unique approach to the doodle
Theme communication: How well the contest theme is expressed in both the artwork and the written statement
Doodles will be grouped and judged by the following 4 grade groups for each seasonal (spring, summer, fall) contest:
Grades K-3
Grades 4-6
Grades 7-9
Grades 10-12
Seasonal Prizes for each grade group: 1st receives a $15 gift card; 2nd receives a $10 gift card.
Top Finalists from the grade groups will automatically be entered into the 2021 Annual Contest and compete for the following prizes:
Grade K-3 1st $50; 2nd $25
Grade 4-6: 1st $80; 2nd $40
Grade 7-9: 1st $100; 2nd $50
Grade 10-12: 1st $150; 2nd $100
Public voting may help determine the winners of the Annual contest. Winners will then be announced in January 2022
Rules & Disqualifications
Doodles that are not original works, contain logos, or copyright imagery will be disqualified.
Only one application per student per contest. Only the first entry for each contest will be considered, any additional entries will be disqualified.
Students may enter each seasonal contest until they qualify as finalists, any subsequent entries will be disqualified.
